Transitional Home in Aldie, Virginia

This design of this transitional home includes thoughtful traditional touches, clean lines, and warmth. Our interior design client in Aldie, VA came to us in search of an update for their main floor breakfast room, cozy family room, and second floor primary bedroom.

Sophisticated

In the breakfast room, they wanted a place their family could enjoy dinner together or a morning cup of coffee. We added custom seat cushions for comfort and brought vibrancy through color and texture throughout the room. With a refreshing view of the outdoors, we were able to create a room that inspires happiness and togetherness and is now a favorite place to be in this transitional home.

We kept the wall color simple and warm. The neutral is a perfect backdrop for the pops of color, like the brilliant teal, navy and celadon. The colors flow beautifully, as it blends into their newly designed spaces and existing kitchen finishes.

It’s the small things that make a big difference.

Timeless

When working with the large primary bedroom in this transitional home, we wanted to make it feel cozy and intimate while utilizing the space effectively. We updated their sizable primary bedroom to provide them with a functional primary bedroom, complete with a sitting area that inspires rest and relaxation.

A metallic ombre grasscloth wallcovering in gold, silver, and gray tones provides an eye-catching feature and serves as the backdrop for their beautifully-upholstered gray velvet bed with a tufted headboard and nailhead detailing.

Layers of luxurious bedding add a bit of glam and beauty while being functional and meeting the needs of the client with washable bedding choices.

Whether beginning or ending their day, this large primary bedroom is the luxurious space to do so. With the warmth of the linear fireplace and the sound of the wall hung water fountain within this space, it inspires serenity in a sophisticated way.

Functional

No detail was overlooked to provide comfort and beauty in the cozy Family Room of this transitional home. We infused it with inspiration and elevated the look and feel of the space for all who enter and sink into the relaxation it welcomes. The completed family room is one in which everyone feels comfortable, cozy, and at home.

The family room is now a comfortable space for everyone to hang out, enjoy one another’s company, and watch movies together. The breathtaking fireplace keeps the space toasty and warm and the ambiance is second to none while the custom, functional draperies keep out heat and light when needed.

The two-seat sofa has large cushions and a coordinating love seat with a performance fabric that is easy to clean if spills occur. The chair and a half were made custom to coordinate and the larger throw pillows, which encourage you to relax and get cozy, are custom-made in a royal blue which brings deep colors into an expansive space.

The end tables are interlocking planks of reclaimed pine and support a concrete tabletop that’s been made to look weathered and used. This brings in the dynamic of being polished and refined while also inspiring comfort and warmth.

The table lamps sitting atop the tables are swirled art glass which brings in the sea glass colors we used repeatedly throughout the space.

Another favorite feature is the fireplace wall which we broke into three sections to add dimension to a previously lackluster wall. The wall is covered in 2’ x 4’ pieces of marble that touch from floor to ceiling and we had new built-ins custom-made with hidden lighting on the sides for a soft night light effect. It includes functional storage for blankets and other items that don’t need to be out all the time.

The TV is an art TV and scrolls to display the client’s favorite art pieces and sits above a large linear fireplace. A warm, handmade mantle features work of a local artisan who used wood from an 1800’s barn.

Finally, we replaced their previous flooring with updated wide plank hardwood flooring. It’s rich, adds depth, and keeps the home timelessly updated, no matter the current trend.

The stairs and stair handrails were sanded and stained to match the new hardwood flooring. The elongated, oval custom spindles bring in a sophisticated and updated look to both staircases, a feeling that ripples into the rest of the home.

This incredible renovation elevated this home from blah to spectacular. From stark to cozy. We left no stone unturned as we sought to provide comfort and beauty in this transitional home.
